The LVBHB (A Dutch acronym for National Association for the Preservation of Historical Commercial Barges) represents all historical vessels that originally were used for trade, transport or towing-service. These vessels bring us back in the time: the original ship-building and living on board remains visible and perceptible. The preservation of these vessels brings an important Dutch cultural and navigating heritage into posture. Together with these vessels harbours and waterways keep their original lively character. Old harbour towns are enriched by a uniqe experience for tourists and recreation. Many historical ships are open to view, in museum harbours or just somewhere on the water.

Het Historisch Bedrijfsvaartuig (The Historical Commercial Barge) is the name we normally use to prevent the long acronym. The purpose of the LVBHB is: "The preservation of historical commercial barges which plied their original trade on Dutch waters and of which the nature is by and large kept. Moreover, the LVBHB helps to keep viable old handicraft and trades that have to do with inland shipping and nautical lifestyles." The LVBHB is a member of the Federatie Oud-Nederlandse Vaartuigen (Federation for Traditional Dutch Vessels).
